Trbusac, a small village near Vladimirci in Serbia, has a special historical significance for this country in the Balkans.
In this village, right next to the main road, there are trees that have a great importance for anyone living in Serbia.
Right at this place, in 1806, the leader of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire, Karađorđe Petrović, stopped his army next to the big oaks, and the priest Pantelija from Urovac blessed the warriors.
They all together then went to the great battle of Mishar, where they defeated the mighty Turkish army, and thus showed themselves and the world that the liberation from the Turks was possible, and not only that, but that it can come quickly.
Next to the huge oaks, which remember these famous days of Serbia’s history, there is also the sculpture called “The Wise Man”, work of the sculptor Milutin Rankovic, which is dedicated to priest Pantelija from Urovac, the man who swore an army on this fateful August day, blessing the weapons.
The Battle of Misar was conducted between the Serbian army of the rebels under the leadership of Karađorđe Petrović and the Turkish Army, on the Mišar Hill, near Šabac, from August 13 to August 15, 1806.
It is one of the greatest victories of Serbian rebels in the First Serbian Uprising.
The Municipality of Vladimirci regularly marks these important dates, and the historic oaks in Trbušac are a place that every year welcomes all who are interested in history, and who want to feel the spirit of the place where Serbia began to gain its freedom.
